Sometimes we move to a new place and the hardest part of the moving is to get to know folks around and make new friends. Having some good friends can make the task of learning about a new place so much easier and fun. But it can often be challenging to make good friends in a new place where you hardly know anybody. I have compiled a list of some interesting things that you can do to really improve your chances of finding and making good friends. You will notice that in each of the points the main idea is to be in places we people get together in groups and they meet regularly. You need to be in those places and win the hearts of people by helping them out in some way or by simply being a nice person. Once people recognize you as a nice and helping person they would naturally want to be your friend.
1. Create an activity or a group on CribSocial

2. Be selfless and help without any expectations in return.
Sometimes we want to help or deal only with people we can gain something from. We try to measure our every action from benefit and loss perspective. Remember a true friend is one who helps you selflessly. So you need to start making friends with the same quality. Don't always try to measure things up instead simply help people. You may not get the reward right away, but people definitely notice such qualities and will do twice as many favors later on once they become your true friends.
3. Be yourself when you meet people
Often we try to portray ourselves as somebody different then what we are when meeting someone new. Unless you are really good at portraying to be someone else I would not suggest that. Most people are not good at this and will reveal their attempt to be somebody they are not. What this does is breaks other's trust on you. And the fundamental ingredient for friendship is trust. People have to trust you before they can be friends with you. Therefore, always be yourself when meeting someone new. If they don't like who you truly are then perhaps it's good that you didn't attempt to be their friend since your friendship wouldn't have lasted long anyways.
4. Be reliable and trustworthy
People want to friends with person who they think is reliable and trustworthy. If they can't count on you for something they probably won't stay your friends for very long. Therefore being somebody reliable is very important in a friendship. Similarly you should present yourself as someone trustworthy. Once people trust you only then will they be your friend. I know it does take time to show your trust worthiness to people, but it's a quality well worth it. People will give your example and praise your trustworthiness once they are friends with you.
5. Be an entertainer, motivator and not a whiner
This is also a very important quality to have if you want people to look up to you for friendship. Most people are already going through so much in their lives that they have no time to go through other's problems. Therefore you should break the habit of always complaining and whining to your friends. They may not always tell you on your face but people often describe some of their friends as whiners. On the other hand if you are someone people can forget their pain with and get a laugh, they will always want to talk to you. You should be the one motivating them or providing them solutions instead stressing them out more.
