Bond between the dog and its owner - How far will you go for your pet

Being the owner of two dogs myself and finding this story so admirable, I couldn't stop myself from writing about it.
In Alameda, California a pit-bull mix, Max, was scheduled to be euthanized after it was deemed dangerous because it bit a vet hospital employee
and dog owner's friend in a separate occasions. Dog's owners, Cochran and Perry's appealed the decision in Alameda superior court but
were denied.
After failing from all the proper ways to save their dog's life, couple decided to do something that only a true dog lover can dare to so.
On the morning of the day when the dog was scheduled to put down, the owners buy a fence cutter, go to the Alameda animal shelter, steal Max
from his cage and escape without being caught by anyone. You just have to admire their affection for Max and the plan they dared to execute.
For couple of days there was no idea about the whereabouts of the dog and his owners. At this point I was jumping and excited about the conclusion of
the story. Being a biased animal lover I am, I was supporting the unlawful action that spared to life of Max until some idiot tipped about the location
of Max and his owners in Reno, Nevada. Max was captured again and his owners were also arrested.
Since this is real life and not a movie; there is no happy ending. Poor Max was euthanized May 17th 2010 and his owners are appearing on court
to face burglary and other charges. I have heard so many times about the bond between a dog and his owner but never in my life I heard an amazing example of just how far people can go to save the life of their dog. And again being a dog owner myself I can totally relate
to the passion these guys had for their dog. In fact I would openly say that if it was my dog I would not think twice before taking the same
action. However I would have been much more clever at hiding my dog somewhere police could never guess.

I wonder if they would have euthanized the dog if it hadn't been a pit bull? There is such prejudice against them. My dog, whom I love dearly, bit our milkman - out of the blue. The milkman was in our kitchen, said he likes dogs, and let my dog sniff him. Then bite! Luckily, it didn't break the skin. I almost had a heart attack, I was so worried that he would call the cops, sue us, or have my dog taken away. Thankfully, he wasn't angry and accepted my profuse apology. Needless to say, I close my dog in a room now when strangers come into the house. Surely there is a better alternative than killing the dog. The people could pay damages, and the dog would have to wear a muzzle outside the house. Problem solved.
